On The Winds Of Love (Collins)

Sunny Lee knew not to go too far into the forest. It was the place that was stocked up with all kinds of wonderful monsters for the campers to practice with. They were deeper in, and Sunny Lee didn't want to upset them. She was sure many of them weren't too happy to be there and having to be used for camper punching bags... or stabbing bags for that matter. Still, the edge of the forest was a nice place to hang around. She decided to just have a little time to herself there to think about things- home, her surfing, and so on.

As she stepped near the forest, she saw a bunch of girls leaving. She knew a few of them, and they were total brats, a mix of Aphrodite's kids who wouldn't know love if it bite them on the butt, and Ares' kids who were just... mean. They were looking back towards the forest as they ran off, laughing at something... or someone. They gave Sunny Lee a dirty look as well, but said nothing to her. After they headed away, a curious Sunny Lee walked into the forest. As she did so, she thought she saw someone standing alone.

"Um... hello?" she said gently.

She ran a hand through her hair lightly as she got up out of her cool cabin. It was always a bit more cold and it was probably her favorite place in the camp. She however found herself running and working out that morning. She always ran through the forest. Less people got to give their opinions of her that way. She was a bit cold and she was very competitive. She just didn’t think about it. She just didn’t think about it all the time. She just kept to herself a lot of the time. Collins was running when suddenly a few rocks were being thrown in her direction causing her to loose focus and trip over her some roots causing her to fall down a small hill and get a few cuts and scrapes to open on her knees and elbows. She groaned a bit when she finally collected herself and started looking at everything over. She looked up to see the girls and guys who were pointing and laughing at her.



She rolled her eyes of coarse it was them and she sighed. She stood up and looked at them. Instead of saying anything she just turned around and went to send a large burst of cold hair and a small layer of frost which sent them all walking away. She sighed and looked over the red coming form her knees.” Bunch of jerks…’ She said to herself. She looked up when she heard Someone behind her. She sighed. “ you missed the show. They already had their fun. … Sorry.” She said honestly. As she brushed herself off.

So that was it. That collection of brats and bullies were making fun of this girl. Sunny Lee didn't know her personally, but she did recall that Boreas, the God of Winter and the North Wind, had claimed her as his own. Sunny Lee did find it cool when a Wind God kid came to the camp. She wanted to meet the girl, but the girl had seemed so distant. Sunny Lee, as friendly as she was, often gave people like that their space. However, now she was so upset that this girl was bullied that she couldn't walk away. She wouldn't walk away. This girl needed a friend right now more than ever.

"I'm not with them, and I certainly don't approve of whatever they did to you," she said in a gentle tone. "I'm sorry you had to go through that." Sunny Lee then stepped and bit closer and gave the girl a warm smile. Being close, she was quick to notice one thing... the girl was absolutely beautiful. Sunny Lee was bi-sexual, so naturally she noticed the lovely girls like she did the handsome boys.

"You're Boreas' daughter, right? I'm Sunny Lee. My father is Notus, God of Summer and the South Wind."

She stood there looking sort of sad as she looked at her knees as the blood that was dripping down started to clot and turn into scabs along with the small gashes on her hands. She sighed as she looked over at the damage she’d done in her fall, everything was going to be so sore and bruised tomorrow. She hated people who bullied her. It wasn’t her fault that she was not a major god. She still had powers and that was something.



She wanted to spin around and just tell who ever it was that she just needed to be alone and then break down and cry in private. But she looked over at the beautiful red head. She stopped a moment and then nodded. “ Oh…Okay….thanks. I wish they’d pick on someone else but alas it’s just the cold kids they pick on.” She shook her head a little bit. She tilted her head a bit as she saw the warm smile on the beautiful woman’s features. It made her chilled heart beat a bit faster.



She smirked a bit and nodded her head. “ Yeah I’m Collins. Boreas is my father. Seems we are polar opposites if your dad is Notus. Always the yin to the other’s yang.” She said as she smiled faintly at the thought of the balance the south and north wind gods danced in a constant duet. Beautiful and full of twist and turns of fluidity.

Sunny Lee's eyes narrowed when Collins spoke of how those like her were that particular group of kids' target. So many of the less admirable campers often did have certain groups they picked on. Why pick on Collins? She was a Cabin Leader, Sunny Lee's Cabin Leader in fact. The thing was the cabin for the minor Nature Gods's kids was so crowded, Sunny Lee had never really got to meet Collins.

"Lots of bullies around here, which I never get. We're all here for the same reason, to train to be heroes. Some of them definitely don't act like they're cut out for that."

Sunny Lee liked how Collins put it. They were opposites, yin and yang, but being opposites sort of connected them. Sunny Lee liked the idea of that.

"It's weird how we live in the same cabin and haven't met. I mean, I've definitely seen you doing your Cabin Leader duties and all. If you don't mind me saying so, it's tough to miss someone so beautiful." Sunny Lee had no qualms in saying that. She spoke her mind after all. "And I like that. Remember in science, how unlike charges attract? I sort of see us that way... I mean if you'd like to be friends." Or more... but Sunny Lee didn't want to scare her away.

Collins nodded her head a little bit as she sighed as she looked over the forest this didn’t bother her. She was never someone who felt terrible she then pulled herself a little bit as she looked over at the woman. She nodded, “ Yeah. But better me than some of the younger kids. I guess.” She said honestly as she looked over at the woman and then shrugged her shoulders a little bit. She nodded her head a little bit. “ Yeah I think that at some point we decide if we are going to be ordinary Demi gods or extraordinary. I personally strive for the whole extraordinary thing. ” She said honestly. She shrugged her shoulders a little bit as she nodded her head a little bit. “ Well….thanks…you are a great leader too.” She said though her blush happened when she registered that the red head called her beautiful.



“ Thank you. ” She said as she nodded her head. She closed her eyes as the term friend came out of that beautiful mouth…She was friend zoned. That hurt more than she had anticipated. However She simply nodded her head as she blinked a few times. “ You know I think I could use a friend. So I accept.” She said honestly as Collins waited to see what Sunny Lee had to say. “ Well I’m Collins.” She offered her hand.

Collins was right. Bullying was harder on the younger kids. Many of them were new to camp, and were dealing with enough like finding out just who they are and what lies in store for them. But a lot of the bullies didn't think about that, and were just... mean.

"You're definitely going to be extraordinary. I can tell. Our parents often don't get the recognition that the Olympians do, but they gave us both some pretty strong wind powers. We can definitely use them for some greater good some day."

Sunny Lee saw the hurt in Collins' eyes when Sunny Lee mentioned "friends". Oh no, did Collins feel about her what Sunny Lee was feeling about Collins? It seemed so. She didn't want to sound goofy and try to backtrack her statement, so she had another idea. She took not only the hand Collins offered, but both hands into hers.

"Um... I don't want to assume you like to date other girls, but... well if you do... I was... was wondering if you'd like to go to the Aphrodite dance with me? I mean, if not for that... reason... we could just go as friends. I'm good with it... either way." She hoped she didn't make Collins feel even more awkward now.

Collins smiled lightly as she settled herself into a comfortable stance. The blush now settled in her cheeks very deep scarlet against her pale features. She nodded her head.” thank you. I, it’s nice to hear that you find me to be extraordinary.” she nodded her head,” it’s true, we are all gifted in some way.” she was growing her powers everyday, now frost accompanied her airbrushes and they were strong and powerful. She was proud of it really,” I hope that some day we can be the hero’s you hear about but if not that’ll be okay too.” Collins simply shrugged her shoulders as she stood there. Collins understand that she just met the red head formally she couldn’t allow herself to have any feelings toward Sunny Lee other than that of friendship, but there was attraction to the red head, she hadn’t anticipated it, but it was there and she knew she didn’t want to be placed in the friend zone.

Collins was astonished when Sunny Lee’s hands grabbed both of her hands her hands were so warm. She couldn’t remember a time she’d actually get warmth. She was always a bit chilled; “ I do- I mean I date only women...” she confessed a bit her darker eyes flicked up to stare at the red head but her eyes again moved to the woman’s hands feeling the warmth.” you want me to be your date to the dance? Like date date? “ she was nervous people always pushed her off as the cold person. She bit her lower lip, “ please don’t break me Sunny Lee.... I wont be able to handle it if this is a joke...” she said honestly. Finally looking up at her.” I would love to be your date if you still want me...” she said honestly.

Sunny Lee smiled about Collins being extraordinary, and liked how she said they could be heroes one day, but she wouldn't be disappointed if they weren't. She like that kind of thinking. She knew not everyone could be a Percy Jackson or Annabeth Chase or Piper McClean or Jason Grace, but that didn't mean she and the other girl couldn't grow to be good people.

"I guess we'll see what the Gods have in store for us, huh?" she said.

As Collins went on, it was crystal clear hat was happening here between them. No guessing or assumptions. This was love at first meeting, and both of them felt it. Or maybe infatuation, but Sunny Lee was all about exploring it,

"I'm not joking at all," said Sunny Lee softly. "And yes, I would like to be your date-date for the dance." She then threw caution to the winds, North or South or whatever, and drew in and gave Collins a warm kiss on the lips. It wasn't a long kiss, but it wasn't short either. When she broke it, she smiled. "And who says that has to be our first date? I know we sit at the same table anyway, but... would you like to join me for dinner tonight... and for camp songs afterward?"

Collins wasn’t someone who would just jump into things. She was cool and calculated and she was very serious and she hat to look over everything. She took a deep breath and slowly let it out. She nodded her head lightly, “ What ever they have in store for either of us it will be different and it’ll be perfect for us. ” She said as she smiled a little bit. She really did feel a lot for this woman. It took a moment but she smiled a little bit. She felt something for this woman and she was willing to let it out this time. She was hoping to at least this time throw caution to the wind and let her infatuation come to the surface.



She was shocked that this red head just came out and wanted to be a date to her. She wanted to ask Sunny Lee if she was sure but she just didn’t have that sort of time when the red head threw all caution to the wind and connected their lips in a kiss. She took a moment but her arms wrapped around the woman’s shoulders and her lips started to move in sync with her’s. She knew it sounded weird, but for the first time she felt warm and she felt that her own coolness wash over them all. She got lost in that moment. Soon enough it broke though and she looked over at the woman. She nodded. “ Yeah. I think that could be nice….I’m not much of a singer but I’ll hang around…’ She said with a smile.

The combination of Sunny Lee's warmth and Collins' coolness was perfect. It felt so right and well-mixed. It was an amazing kiss. Sunny Lee guessed the two were officially dating... officially girlfriends. Yes, they had just met, but Sunny Lee believed in love at first sight. There was just something about Collins, a soul mate-type vibe. Sunny Lee hoped she was right. What she did know for sure was that Collins needed someone there for her, and Sunny Lee wanted to be that person.

"I can't really sing either," she said with a smile. She then raised an eyebrow and thought. "Hmmm... maybe we shouldn't join the others in a sing-a-long. Maybe we should find something else to occupy ourselves before it's time to turn in for the night." As long as campers were in their cabins and in bed by the scheduled time, it didn't really matter what they did with their last round of free time for the night. "Have any ideas?" Sunny Lee then drew in and kissed Collins again, hoping her warmth and Collins' coolness combined again. She could really get used to that. She had a feeling that this could be more than some brief Summer romance.

It took many moments to live and find her forever. So here she was looking into these summery golden eyes filled with…possibility. She was kissing her natural opposite and it felt wonderful. For the first time she felt….warm. She never felt warmth before and this was new to her. She slowly moved her hands up and down as she kissed the red head and slowly her eyes opened to look at her. It was the truth though that she wasn’t a singer then she looked over at her. “ Yeah…maybe we can go for a walk down by the lake or find somewhere maybe partake in a few more of those uh-stolen kisses… If you don’t though, that’s okay.” She said quickly not wanting to make anything weird.



Collins just needed to feel something and she felt something for this beautiful red head which meant that her world was about to change. She would need to really find some time to think about it all. She then ran a hand through her dark hair. “ Did you want to maybe walk back to camp now? I should probably change back into my camp uniform before I get into trouble.” It was not looking for any trouble.

Sunny Lee loved the coolness of Collins' lips. It was a pleasant type of chill, like a frosty drink on a hot day. She could drink more and more of them. The kiss had to break eventually, but Sunny Lee felt there were more and more to come. She then smiled as Collins came up with a plan.

"I love that idea," she said. "I'll bring a blanket and lay it out. Maybe if we find a good spot, we can build out own fire, have a little camp-out of our own until it's times to return to the cabin. And yes, lots and lots of stolen kisses."

Sunny Lee took Collins' hand into hers as the other girl said she wanted to go change. She formed a cheeky grin.

"Well, we do live in the same cabin and all, so why don't I just escort you, milady?" she asked. "We can discuss more of our little plan for the evening." Sunny Lee was happy to walk out holding her new girlfriend's hand, to let the whole camp know she had just found an amazing lady, If any of the bullies had something to say, Sunny Lee would make them sweat big time with a heated wind.

Collins wasn’t someone who melted easy and yet she melted with this woman. Sunny Lee was the secret, she was the woman who made her feel something. It was something she’d not felt ever in her entire life. Slowly she pulled away from the summer goddess’s child and started into her lighter features. She was just beautiful, why hadn’t she noticed her before? Probably because she was being buillied and a lot of people seemed to love the girl and Collins didn’t feel worthy to have her.



She slowly looked over at her and smiled a little bit. “ Okay. That’s going to be perfect, lets plan on that.” She said honestly as she smiled a little bit as she loked over at her and then she watched the cheeky grin form on the red heads lips and she smiled a little bit. “ Wow. That was a little bit cheeky.” She smiled a little bit but winked over at the woman. She took the girls hand softly but smiled anyway liking it. She looked over at her and then cleared her throat a little bit. “ Ooo who knew you were so cheeky Sunny Lee.” She smiled lightly at the red head and moved over and kissed her cheek. “ I like it.” She laughed but hid her face in her hand.

Sunny Lee loved that she had made the beautiful woman smile and laugh. When she had found Collins, the girl had been so down because of what those jerks did. She slowly removed the hands from Collins' face and kissed both of them.

"I'm the Queen of Cheeky," she said.

That night, Sunny Lee built the promised fire for the two. The campfire songs had just begun, so she and Collins had plenty of time. She also sat a blanket out for the two. She wished she could have worn a nice summer dress instead of the camp shirt and shorts, but it wouldn't matter what she wore or what her new girlfriend wore. Soon, they would be paying attention to one another's lips. Sunny Lee was able to grab two bottles of cranberry juice though, and two cups well. It wasn't wine, as they weren't old enough to drink wine, but it could be romantic for the two of them anyway. As she sat and poured the juice, she smiled at Collins.

"This has been quite a day," she said. "When I woke up this morning, I had no idea that I would meet the girl of my dreams."
